Sphingicampa bicolor (or Syssphinx bicolor) occurs in eastern North America from southern Ontario to northeastern Mexico, but mainly in the Upper Midwest. It is found in deciduous woodlands, including thornscrub. Variable. The forewing is grayish, yellowish, amber or reddish, usually speckled, with or without 1-2 white spots. The hindwing is reddish-brown to wine-red. Wingspan 47-67 mm. Larvae feed on Honey Locust (Gleditsia triacanthos) and Kentucky Coffee Tree (Gymnocladus dioicus), both Fabceae. Adults do not feed. S. bicolor flies from April to September (2-3 broods).
